2 Chinese members of K-pop band no-show in Manila

Two Chinese members of a K-pop boy band failed to show up in Manila for an event due to “personal reasons,” angering and disappointing fans who said that it was because of the West Philippine Sea dispute.

Singapore-based Three Angles Production, which is organizing boy band Seventeen’s Manila fan meet slated on August 14 and 15, announced this morning that members Jun, aka Wen Junhui, and The8, aka Xu Minghao, will not be part of the shows.

“Due to personal reasons, Seventeen members Jun and The8 will not be able to attend Manila as the second fan meeting destination of 2016 Seventeen 1st Asia Pacific tour: Shining Diamonds which began last August 13,” Three Angles posted on its Facebook page. “We would like to apologize to our foreign fans for this unexpected news and to ask for your understanding.”

Fans commented that the two did not go to Manila because of the West Philippine Sea issue since Jun and The8 attended the inaugural fan meet in Singapore on August 13.
The Philippines won the case before the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague last month.
“Maybe Chine line choose to not attend dahil nga sa issue between China and Philippines mahirap na baka sila pa mapag initan ng China,” wrote one fan on Three Angles’ Facebook page.
