‘Gangnam Style’ Wins Song Of The Year

MANILA, Philippines – Psy’s “Gangnam Style” won the Digital Daesang, or Song of the Year, on the second day of the 27th Golden Disk Awards held on Jan. 16 at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.

The second day of the awards honored winners in digital music. The Song of the Year was based on BGM, downloads and ringback tone sales.
Psy did not attend the awards ceremony but instead sent a video message to thank fans for the support. This is the first time that Psy won a Golden Disk award.
He is currently preparing for his next single.
“Gangnam Style” became a worldwide sensation after the music video was uploaded on YouTube in July last year. To date, the music video has garnered 1.2 billion views on YouTube and three Guinness World Records.
Psy will star in the first Super Bowl ad of Wonderful Pistachios, which will air on Feb. 3 in the US. Before Psy, Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao starred in the brand’s commercial last year.
Psy and “Gangnam Style” made it to Billboard’s year-end chart for 2012.  Psy became the seventh top new artist and No. 56 on the top artists of the year.
“Gangnam Style” ranked No. 47 on the year-end Hot 100 Songs while Psy is No. 51 on the Hot 100 Artists. The song peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 for weeks.
At the Golden Disk Awards, the Digital Bonsang was awarded to 2NE1, Big Bang, miss A, Sistar, Huh Gak, f(x), Psy, K.Will, Secret, T-ara, G-Dragon.
Big Bang won the MSN International Award while G-Dragon won the CeCi magazine Popularity Award.
The New Rising Star Awards went to BAP, Ailee and Lee Hi while Sistar won the Samsung Galaxy Star Award.
Epik High bagged the Best Hip Hop Award and Teen Top won the Single Album Award.
FT Island’s Hongki won the InStyle Fashionista Award.
The Golden Disk Awards became a two-day event with the first day honoring the winners in album sales.
