If plans push through, the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)
will be held in the Philippines this year.
According to the Global Hallyu Data
2013 report released by the Korea Foundation, there are plans to hold the
awards show in the country on Nov. 26.

MAMA is one of the biggest K-pop music
awards show in Korea organized yearly by CJ E&M Music and Live and aired on
TV channel Mnet.
Director Hwang Seong-un of the Korean
Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines said the staging of MAMA in the
country is not yet confirmed.
Rumors about the show being held in the
Philippines and in an arena in Bulacan surfaced last year.
The awards show started in 1999 under
the name Mnet KM Music Festival. For 11 years, the show was held in South
Korea.
In 2009, it was renamed Mnet Asian
Music Awards and the following year, it was held overseas for the first time in
Macau.
MAMA was held in Singapore in 2011 and
in Hong Kong in 2012 and 2013.
The 2013 MAMA, held at the Hong Kong
Convention and Exhibition Centre, drew K-pop’s biggest stars and international
celebrities.
Among them were Rain, Girls’
Generation, Big Bang, Infinite, Stevie Wonder, Paris Hilton, Icona Pop and Hong
Kong’s Aaron Kwok.
G-Dragon was the biggest winner in the
awards show, taking home the BC-UnionPay Artist of the Year award, Nissan Juke
Best Music Video for “Coup d’etat,” Best Dance Peformance-Male Solo for
“Crooked” and Best Male Artist.
Cho Yong Pil won the BC-UnionPay Song
of the Year for “Bounce” while boy band EXO bagged the BC-UnionPay Album of the
Year for “XOXO,” their first studio album.
If the Philippines will host MAMA, it
will be the first time that a K-pop awards show will be held here.
