Psy, Super Junior, Hangeng Nominated in 2012 MTV EMA | The Manila Bulletin Newspaper Online

MANILA, Philippines  - Korean rapper Psy is on a roll.

His hit song "Gangnam Style" has been nominated for best video in the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA), which will be held on Nov. 11 in Frankfurt, Germany.

"Gangnam Style" will be competing in the category against Lady Gaga's "Marry the Night," Katy Perry's "Wide Awake," M.I.A.'s "Bad Girls" and Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris' "We Found Love."

"OMG~!!! I am nominated 'BEST VIDEO' at #EMA~!!!" Psy tweeted upon learning the good news.

"Gangnam Style" has opened the door for Psy to be invited to the MTV Music Video Awards and TV shows in the US.

The viral music video has surpassed the 200-million view mark on YouTube. As of today, "Gangnam Style" has been viewed 207 million times.

"Got 200 million views !!! Thx everybody!!!" Psy posted on Twitter along with a screenshot of the YouTube page.

After performing on "The Today Show" in the US last week, Psy will be going back to "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Sept. 19 to perform "Gangnam Style."

Psy appeared briefly on "Ellen" last week to teach Britney Spears the song's horse-riding dance.

On the other hand, in some sort of a twist of fate, Korea's Super Junior will be competing with their former member Hangeng (China) in the MTV EMA's Best Asia Act under the Worldwide Act category.

Other nominees are Jolin Tsai from Taiwan, EXILE from Japan and Yuna from Malaysia.

Fans will be voting in three phases for the category. According to MTV, from Sept. 17 to Oct. 14, fans in Southeast Asia, China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea may vote for the five nominees to select the Best Asia Act.

The Best Asia Act winner will be announced on Oct. 15.

Fans in Australia and New Zealand will also be selecting their Best Australia/New Zealand Act along with other fans worldwide who will be voting their own regional favorites.

In the second phase, to be held on Oct. 15 to 29, viewers will have to choose between the winners of the Best Asia Act and Best Australia/New Zealand Act to determine the Worldwide Act Asia Pacific winner.

The winner will represent the Asia Pacific region at the 2012 MTV EMA for the Worldwide Act category.

"Likewise, viewers from the rest of the world will be voting towards their own continental region representatives. Results from this knock-out round will be announced online on 30 October," according to MTV.

In the last phase, from Oct. 30 to Nov. 9 (Nov. 10 in the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong), fans can vote for the winning artists to select the winner of the Worldwide Act award.
