14 El Monte city (in California) pool workers fired for filming 'Gangnam Style' spoof

EL MONTE - Fourteen city pool workers landed in hot water this week after a video surfaced of them performing a parody of the viral Korean pop music video "Gangnam Style" at the El Monte Aquatic Center.
The 13 lifeguards and pool manager were fired Wednesday.
Several of the former employees said the city's decision went too far and that they were off the clock when they filmed the video.

"We could've been reprimanded in several ways," said former lifeguard Michael Roa.
Roa said many of the pool employees are college students trying to support themselves while going to school.
"Even a suspension would've been appropriate. I feel like being fired should have been their last decision, but it was their first decision without giving us any time to defend ourselves," he said.
The video features several workers in their red lifeguard suits and trunks, some of them with whistles around their necks mimicking scenes from the "Gangnam Style" pop video that has in recent weeks gone viral on the internet - with more than 113 million views on Youtube.
