Nominees in the 2011 Seoul Drama Awards

MANILA, Philippines – This year’s Seoul International Drama Awards ceremony will be held on August 31 and organizers have announced the nominees for different categories which were selected from 204 dramas submitted from 37 countries.

For TV movie, the nominees are: “Casting Word” (China), “Gold Tail” (Iran), “Me & My Umbrella” (Denmark), “Operation Checkmate” (Iran), “Shades of Happiness” (Germany), “The Goddess of the Toilet” (Japan), “The Varnish Cracks” (France) and “When Harvey Met Bob” (Ireland).
Nominees for mini-series are “Dream High” (Korea), “Luther” (UK), “Mountain Rescue Team” (Poland), “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho” (Korea), “Naked City” (Portugal), “The Pillars of the Earth” (Germany), “The Red Band Society” (Spain), and “The Walking Dead” (US).
In the Series category, the nominees are “Dance Academy” (Australia), “In The Name of Honour” (Romania), “Left on the Shelf” (Argentina), “Little Mosque 5” (Canada), “Neighbours” (Australia), “Passione” (Brazil), “Three Kingdoms” (China) and “Twinkle Twinkle” (Korea).
In the best actor category, the nominees this year are: Richard Roxburgh (“Hawke”, Australia) and Ehsan Dankoub (“Gold Tail”, Iran) for the TV movie; Idris Elba (“Luther”, UK) and Hilomia Dandala (“Jacob’s Cross 5”, South Africa) in mini-series; and Jianbin Chen (“Three Kingdoms”, China) and Tony Ramos (“Passione”, Brazil) for drama series.
In the best actress category, the nominees this year are: Maria Furtwangler (“Shades of Happiness”, Germany) and Moon hee Na (“It’s Me, Grandma”, Korea) for TV movie; Catarina Furtado (“Naked City”, Portugal) and Laura Linney (“The Big C”, US) in mini-series; and Celeste Cid (“Left on the Shelf”, Argentina) and Xenia Goodwin (“Dance Academy”, Australia) for drama series.
Nominees for best director are: Dongyu Fan (“Casting Sword”, China) and Miguel Alexandre (“Shades of Happiness”, Germany) for TV movie; Marcin Wrona (“Mountain Rescue Team”, Poland) and Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (“The Piller of the Earth”, Germany) in mini-series; and Daniel Barone (“Left on the Shelf”, Argentina) and XiXi Gao (“Three Kingdoms”, China) for drama series.
Nominees were also released for the Hallyu Drama category. In the best Korean drama, the nominees are: “My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho", Sungkyungwan Scandal", "Queen of Reversals", "Baker King Kim Tak-gu", "Mary Stayed Out All Night", "Dream High", "Dongyi", "My Princess", "Kim Su-ro", "Giant", "Athena: Goddess of War", "Secret Garden", and "Bad Guy".
In the best Korean actor category, Park Yoochun of “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” will be competing against Jang Geun-suk of "Mary Stayed Out All Night", Song Seung-heon of "My Princess", Hyun Bin of "Secret Garden", and Kang Ji-hwan of "Coffee House".
Best actress nominees are Kim Tae-hee of "My Princess", Park Min Young of "Sungkyungwan Scandal", Moon Geun-young of "Mary Stayed Out All Night", Lee Yo-won of "49 Days", and Ha Ji-won of "Secret Garden".
The best soundtrack nominees are: "Found It" by JYJ from "Sungkyungwan Scandal", Baek Ji-young's "That Woman" from "Secret Garden", "Please My Bus" by Jang Geun-seok from "Mary Stayed Out All Night", Jungyup's "Nothing Happened" from "49 Days", and "The One" by Lee Seung-cheol for "Baker King Kim Tak-gu".
According to the Korean Broadcasting Association, the awards that will be given this year are: Golden Bird Prize – to be given to a program selected as the world's best drama for 2010-2011; Silver Bird Prize – to be given to two dramas in each category: TV Movie, Mini-series and Series Drama; Special Prize – to be given to a program that has contributed to improvement of TV dramas; Best Director, Best Screenwriter, Best Actor, Best Actress in the individual category; The Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year – to be given to a foreign program that was the most popular in Korea for 2010-2011;People's Choice – to be presented to five actors and/or actresses from Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese and Hong Kong dramas for 2010-2011 and selected by netizens via Yahoo online voting; and Representative Korean Drama Prize, Representative Korean Leading Actor, Representative Korean Leading Actress, Representative Korean Supporting Actor, Representative Korean Supporting Actress to be given to outstanding Korean dramas and actors.
