Actor Ryu Seung Ryong and TV host Yoo Jae Suk were the big winners at the 49th Baeksang Arts Awards on May 9, taking home the "daesang," or grand prize, for their respective works in film and TV.
Ryu Seung Ryong won the daesang in the film division for "Miracle in Cell No. 7," which became the fourth bestselling film of all time in Korea with 12.8 million tickets sold since its release last January.
Yoo Jae Suk, who is often dubbed in Korea as the "nation's MC," bagged the grand prize in the TV division. He is the host of three programs: "Running Man" on SBS, "Infinite Challenge" on MBC and "Happy Together" on KBS.
In the TV division, "The Chaser" was adjudged as best drama while Kim Kyu Tae won as best director for "That Winter, The Wind Blows," which starred Jo In-sung and Song Hye Kyo. Park Kyung Soo of "The Chaser" won best screenplay.
Son Hyun-joo of "The Chaser" won as best actor while Kim Hee Ae of "Wife's Credentials" won as best actress.
Girl group A Pink's main vocalist Jung Eun Ji won as best new actress for the drama "Reply 1997" and Lee Hee Joon of "Unexpected You" won as best new actor.
Park Yoochun, member of boy band JYJ, won as most popular TV actor for his role in "Missing You." This is the third year in a row that Yoochun won the award.
Girls' Generation member Yuri won as most popular TV actress for "Fashion King."
Kim Byung Man of the "Law of the Jungle" won as best male TV personality while Shin Bora of "Gag Concert" won as best female TV personality.
"Korean Cuisine and Dining" won as best educational program and "Dad, Where Are We Going?" won as best variety program.
In film, "Gwanghae, The Man Who Became King" romped off with the best picture award and Chu Chang-min won as best director for his work on the film.
Ha Jung-woo of "Berlin Files" took home the best actor award while Kim Min-hee of "Temperature of Love" won as best actress.
Ma Dong-seok of "My Neighbor" won as best supporting actor and Jo Eun-ji of "Concubine" won as best supporting actress.
The best new actor and actress awards went to Jo Dae-hon for "My Little Hero" and Han Yeri of "As One." Jo Sung-hee won as best new director for "Werewolf Boy."
Kim Dong-wan of "Deranged" won as most popular film actor while Park Shin-hye won as most popular film actress for "Miracle in Cell No. 7." Jang Byung-gil won for best screenplay for "I Am a Murderer."
