MANILA, Philippines - Psy's viral hit "Gangnam Style" has been chosen as one of the best songs of 2012 by Rolling Stone magazine, SPIN magazine, and MTV.
Rolling Stone released its 50 Best Songs of 2012 and "Gangnam Style" is at No. 25.

"Seoul Brother Number One invents a dance craze and conquers America, the one place that had resisted Korean disco. 'Gangnam Style' blew up on YouTube and became a Top 10 hit in South Korea, Mexico, Ireland, Belgium, Lebanon, Israel, Russia and the U.S., where sexy laaadaaays know a monster beat when they hear one," the magazine said of Psy's hit song.
The top 10 on Rolling Stone's list are Alabama Shakes' "Hold On," Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," Passion Pit's "Take A Walk," Frank Ocean's "Thinkin Bout You," Neil Young and Crazy Horse's "Ramada Inn," Kanye West feat. Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz's "Mercy," Bruce Springsteen's "Rocky Ground," Jack White's "Sixteen Saltines," Bob Dylan, "Pay in Blood" and First Aid Kit's "Emmylou."
Justin Bieber's "Die In Your Arms" is at No. 45 and Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" is at No. 50.
"Gangnam Style" also made it to SPIN magazine's 40 Best Songs of 2012 at No. 8.
"Do you remember when you first heard 'Gangnam Style' and the small child next to you looked up and went, 'Really, man? Are you kidding me?' Or the first time you heard 'Call Me Maybe' and the creepy single guy who lives next door said, 'Hey, buddy, how old you think that singer is?' Well, we’re here to relive those magical moments and so many, many more. 2012, the year the single danced on the album's grave with renewed vigor," wrote SPIN.
The magazine said "Gangnam Style" is K-pop's "U Can't Touch This."
"K-pop gets its first 'U Can't Touch This'-caliber wedding song; a billion unimaginative bros get an easy Halloween costume; YouTube gets its blessedly Bieber-free new pinnacle, our nation's various comedians (be they sketching, improvising, monologuing) get a cheap laugh; horses get, y'know, publicity. Has justifiably beguiled everyone from Springsteen to Hammer himself to (?$%^&!) Noam Chomsky. Beats the hell outta 'Macarena.' Oh, and death to America," the magazine said.
Kanye West feat. Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz's "Mercy" was picked as No. 1 followed by Japandroids' "The House That Heaven Built," Frank Ocean's "Bad Religion," Kendrick Lamar's "Swimming Pools (Drank)," Bat For Lashes' "Laura," Miguel's "Adorn," Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe (Sekuoia LOL Mix)," "Gangnam Style," Sleigh Bells' "Comeback Kid" and Solange's "Losing You."
Over at MTV, "Call Me Maybe" is No. 1 and "Gangnam Style" is at No. 8.
"Before Psy's late-breaking controversy, his viral hit 'Gangnam Style' befuddled Bill O'Reilly, infiltrated the NFL, inspired more parodies than Clint Eastwood at the RNC and, oh, yeah, racked up nearly 1 billion views on YouTube. 'Gangnam' is either the track we, as a culture needed right now, or the track we, as a culture, deserved (probably both). But no matter what your take, chances are you did the dance at least once," wrote MTV.
For MTV, the 10 Best Songs of 2012 are "Call Me Maybe," Fun's "We Are Young," Gotye feat. Kimbra's "Somebody That I Used to Know," One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful," Nicki Minaj's "Starships," Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," Kanye West feat. Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz's "Mercy," "Gangnam Style," The Wanted's "Glad You Came" and Maroon 5's "Payphone."
