2NE1, CNBLUE and Girls’ Generation are going head to head this month, with each group releasing separate albums on Feb. 24.
SM Entertainment was the first to lay claim on the date, when it announced the release the new album of Girls’ Generation titled “Mr.Mr.”

This was followed by CNBLUE announcing the release of their fifth mini-album “Can’t Stop,” on the same day.
Now, YG Entertainment has announced that 2NE1 will also be releasing their second studio album “Crush” on Feb. 24. It is the group’s first in four years.
The three are expected to compete in album sales, music charts and awards on music TV shows including “Music Bank,” “Inkigayo,” “Music Core,” and “M Countdown.”
YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun Suk wrote on the YG Life blog, “Is it because we had fans waiting for too long? Just hearing the name 2NE1 makes our hearts throb. 2NE1, who made a debut 6 years ago, will be unveiling a full album with many new songs for the very first time. 2NE1 released their first album 4 years ago in September 2010, but it was an album with just a few new songs added to the previous single soundtracks. So this is the first time in 6 years for the divas to be unveiling an album full of new songs.”
He added that “Crush,” which contains 10 songs, would be unveiled at midnight on Feb. 24 via a number of online music sites. The physical CD will be released the following week.
A teaser video for “Crush” will be revealed on the same date, with the full version to be released online on Feb. 28.
Yang shared that 2NE1′s CL wrote and composed three songs in “Crush.”
“You are the ones to judge the quality of her music. But when I first listened to CL’s very own song, the one word that described my feeling was ‘surprised.’ Which is only natural, because I have known CL for 8 years and I never expected her to produce a song like this, and the song was too good to be her very first one,” he said.
As to the other members’ contribution, he added, “The long preparation time means there are many songs besides the ones included in the 2nd full album, so other members’ solo songs initially planned to be included in the latest album are currently put aside for the next album.”
YG will be introducing four new groups this year, with Yang saying, “2014 is expected to be a more important year than any other ones for YG… it is also a year where sensational four new groups of YG will be unveiled, after a very long period of preparing and training.”
“I agree that this is not an easy task, so I choose to use the word ‘challenge.’ And since it’s also risky, I say this is a ‘gamble’ for us, but we are determined to achieve the goal. And the only way to reach the goal is to produce good music,” he added.
2NE1 will start their second world tour in Seoul on March 1 and 2.
